About this translation
This is an English translation provided for reference. If there is any difference between this translation and the Japanese version, the Japanese version takes precedence.
Introduction
Follow the Terms of Service and the laws of Japan.
If we find posts or other content that do not follow these rules or the Terms of Service, we will "delete the post" or "add an NSFW flag (sensitive) to the file", and depending on the case, we may "silence or suspend the account".

Notes
On this server, we basically recommend that you "avoid what you don't like by yourself".
For this reason, "statements that push your preferences on others" are prohibited. For example, a statement such as "I really don't like this topic, so please don't talk about it on the timeline" falls under this.
Recommendations
Set a CW on notes that contain the following:
- Religious topics, or notes that contain words related to them
- You don't need a CW if you talk about them as "part of a creative work". However, make it clear that it is "fiction".
- Political statements are prohibited.
- Religious topics, or notes that contain words related to them
Set up ways to protect yourself
- We recommend that you set up ways to protect yourself in advance, such as "muting words or hashtags you don't like, or muting or blocking users".
- See the Self-Protection Guidelines for details.
Prohibited Actions
- Statements that violate the laws of Japan or "rules that are generally followed" on the internet
- This includes "common sense".
- Violent statements or actions such as slander
- This includes announcing a crime, or inviting or soliciting others to commit a crime.
- This includes announcing a suicide, or inviting or soliciting others to commit suicide.
- Statements or actions that harm or may harm others
- Example: spreading malware or malicious hoaxes
- Political statements, or drawing others into political or religious activities
- This includes talking about political ideologies or opinions, and political or religious advertising.
- If you talk about them as "part of a creative work", make it clear that it is "fiction".
- Hateful conduct (hate speech) or harassment of any kind
- This covers not only statements and actions that slander or discriminate against individuals or groups based on characteristics such as race, nationality, beliefs, gender, disability, occupation, or appearance, but also inciting others to such statements and actions[1].
- Using emoji for purposes other than their intended use, whether intentional or not
- Example: recreating expressions that are against public order and morals, or things that are generally avoided
- This includes "decoration with MFM".
- Statements about illegal or specially regulated goods, services, or groups
- If you talk about them as "part of a creative work", you must make it clear that it is "fiction".
- Infringing the rights of others, such as intellectual property rights, the right to reputation, privacy, personality rights, or portrait rights
- This includes "disclosing other people's personal information".

- Example: forcing others to act in a certain way
- See "About Vigilantism" for details.
- "Discussions" are not prohibited, but please use direct messages for them.
- Spam
- Example: posting the same message repeatedly, posting many notes that contain only URLs
- Evading penalties
- Wait until the penalty is lifted, or contact a moderator directly to file an appeal.
- If your account is suspended and you cannot contact us, please email [email protected].
- Impersonating others
- Encouraging or helping others to break the prohibited items
- Posting works generated by AI (mainly images and audio)
Caution
Until October 17, 2024, these were allowed under certain conditions. However, because malicious use of AI technology has become common on the internet, we have prohibited them.
- Training AI on posted works
- Using the drive as cloud storage
- Please refrain from using it as storage beyond its intended purpose, such as uploading many files that you don't use for posts.
- Disclosing vulnerabilities on Misskey.art without the consent of the administrators
- See "Reporting Vulnerabilities" for details.
- Other statements or actions that the administrators consider inappropriate
Profile
Your profile, including your avatar, banner, name, and bio, cannot be hidden with "Hide content", and is shown as it is in many places, such as timelines and user lists.
For this reason, do not use images that contain NSFW elements or extreme text in your profile.
If we find such a profile, we may ask you to change it. If you don't, we may silence or suspend the account.
For accounts that keep posting R-18 works, we recommend adding a line such as "🔞" or "No viewers under 18 (including high school students)" to the bio.
Posting Inappropriate Files Is Prohibited
Posting the following files is prohibited:
- Sexual images of real people
- Violent images of real people
- Content that sexually depicts children (whether real or drawn, such as illustrations)[2]
- Files that contain NSFW elements without the settings required for their NSFW category
- Files that harm others (example: malware)
- Copies of other people's works made without permission (example: unauthorized reposts)
The right to reproduce and copy a work belongs only to its author (Article 21 of the Copyright Act of Japan).- Even if you credit the source, reposting without the rights holder's permission is still an unauthorized repost.
- Quoting that meets the requirements of Article 32, Paragraph 1 of the Copyright Act (showing the source, with your own text as the main part and the quoted part as secondary, etc.) and posting links to the original post are fine.
- Other files that the administrators consider inappropriate
Note
Live-action expressions without sexual intent, such as cosplay photos, are not considered "sexual images of real people".
Caution
If we find "sexual or violent live-action images involving children under 18", we will delete the note and suspend the account immediately. We will also report it to the relevant authorities and providers as necessary.
These are also prohibited in "direct messages".
About NSFW (Not Safe for Work)
What is NSFW (source: Wikipedia, emphasis added)
Not safe for work (NSFW), also known as not suitable for work, is Internet slang or shorthand used to mark links to content, videos, or webpages the viewer may not wish to be seen viewing in a public, formal, or controlled environment.
NSFW Criteria
- Content with a lot of exposure
- Content in which private areas (the areas covered by a swimsuit) are exposed
- Content that is not suitable for viewing in public places such as workplaces or trains
- Content that depicts bodily fluids other than tears or sweat[3]
- Content drawn with sexual intent
- Content that contains gore[4]
When you handle content that falls under the above, see the NSFW Guidelines.
NSFW Categories and Required Settings
Files that fall under NSFW are divided into "mild" and "severe" depending on their content. Post them with the settings required for their category.
- Mild: "Sensitive" must be set.
Content from the following that is not severe:- Content with a lot of exposure (such as swimsuits or underwear, with private areas covered)
- Content drawn with sexual intent
- Content that is not suitable for viewing in public places such as workplaces or trains
- Severe (R-18, R-18G, etc.): Both "Sensitive" and "Hide content" must be set.
- Content in which private areas (the areas covered by a swimsuit) are exposed
- Content that depicts bodily fluids other than tears or sweat[3:1]
- Content that depicts sexual acts or acts that suggest them
- Content that contains gore[4:1]
- Content that contains elements that need to be censored (mosaic)
If you are not sure which category applies, treat it as severe and set both.
When you post NSFW text (text with sexual or grotesque expressions, including text decoration with MFM and ASCII art), set "Hide content".
Caution
To protect each other, be sure to post with the "settings required for the category".
When you set "Hide content", write a warning (NSFW, R-18, etc.) in the "Comments" field, and write an outline of the file and the attributes it contains in the text.
We also recommend adding a tag such as "#NSFW" to the text so that others can mute it easily.
For posts without the settings required for the category, within 3 days after we find them, we may "mark the files as sensitive", "delete the note", or "suspend the account". Please be careful.
Responsibility for breaking the NSFW rules lies not with "the minor who saw it" but with "the poster who showed it".
There is also the point of "protecting yourself from attributes you don't like", but more importantly, please understand that "the poster may bear responsibility under the law or the rules".
You can register on Misskey.art from the age of 13, but NSFW works are only for people aged 18 or older (not including high school students). If you are not, please avoid viewing them.
Notes on Developing Bots
Do not run bots with the following functions on Misskey.art:
- Bots that repost other people's content without permission (whether or not credit is given)
- Bots with functions that put a load on the server
- Bots with functions that harm others
- Bots with other functions that the administrators consider inappropriate
About Vigilantism
Caution
Do not do it under any circumstances.
If someone is causing a problem, do not react. Report it according to the Reporting Guidelines, or contact an administrator.
This also applies when "an administrator is causing the problem".
In that case, report it to an administrator other than the one causing the problem.
Reporting Vulnerabilities
If you find a vulnerability in Misskey.art or Misskey, do not post it in public places (such as timelines or public Discord channels). Report it directly to an administrator, for example with a note whose visibility is set to "Direct". See the Reporting Guidelines for how to contact them.
On Misskey.art, disclosing the details or existence of a vulnerability, or unilaterally announcing a deadline for disclosing it, is prohibited, regardless of whether it has been fixed or how much time has passed. If you want to disclose it, get the consent of the administrators in advance. If you break this rule, we may delete the post and also silence or suspend the account.
Disclosure outside Misskey.art is not subject to penalties under this rule, but please don't do it either. Even after a fix, some servers have not updated yet, and their users would be put at risk.
Questions and Requests
Use the "報告など" (reports) forum channel on the official Discord server.
For questions about the rules or terms, you can also contact an administrator directly on Misskey.

Piggybacking on someone's opinion or impression in order to belittle a specific individual, group, race, etc., and twisting it into something the original poster did not mean, also counts as incitement. ↩︎
Under Japanese law, drawn depictions (such as illustrations) are not covered by the Act on Regulation and Punishment of Child Prostitution and Child Pornography. However, in other countries such as the United States, even drawn depictions may be regulated by law. Because posts on Misskey.art are also delivered to servers overseas through federation, we prohibit such content whether it is real or drawn. ↩︎
Content that looks sexual because of tears or sweat is considered NSFW. ↩︎ ↩︎
This refers to violent (grotesque) expressions such as bloodshed, missing body parts, and insects. ↩︎ ↩︎
